  19. Subject: Running WinFax on Slow Systems (386SX or Slower)
  20.  
  21. Situation:
  22. ==========
  23. You have difficulty sending or receiving a fax with WinFax PRO on a
  24. 386SX system, or on any slow system.
  25.  
  26. Solution:
  27. =========
  28. A lack of system resources affects timing and likely causes this
  29. situation. Change your system as follows and try sending a fax after
  30. each change.
  31.  
  32. 1.  To free up system resources within the system, add the following
  33.     settings in the SYSTEM.INI file under the [386Enh] section:
  34.  
  35.          Comboosttime=30      increases amount of time for a serial IRQ
  36.          Comxautoassign=0     allows Windows to assign the COM port
  37.                               automatically
  38.          ComxBuffer=1024      increases the size of the serial buffer
  39.          ComxProtocol=XOFF    sets the flow control to Xon/Xoff
  40.  
  41.     where "x" is the COM port the fax/modem is actually using, such as
  42.     for Com1Buffer=, Com2Buffer=, Com3Buffer=, ....
  43.  
  44. 2.  In WinFax PRO 2.0 only, set the Max Tx Rate to 4800 baud in the
  45.     WinFax Setup dialog box.
  46.  
  47. 3.  Set the minimum time slice to 30 milliseconds in the 386 Enhanced
  48.     section of the Windows Control Panel.
  49.  
  50. 4.  Run Windows in Standard Mode.
  51.  
  52. Note:    If you run Windows in Standard Mode, you cannot use the OCR
  53.          (optical character recognition) feature available in WinFax
  54.          PRO 3.0.
